Foundation programs have been specifically developed for international students and students whose first language is not English, to offer the best preparation for bachelors degree study.

Foundation programs are taught on behalf of a range of Universities and private providers throughout Australia. Foundation study usually takes a year, although accelerated six month programs are available to suitably qualified students. Foundation programs are designed to develop skills in:

  • the style of study at university
  • critical and independent thinking
  • computer use and research
  • essential subject knowledge. For example in accounting, calculus, chemistry, computer science, design, economics, English, geography, physics and statistics.

Students who successfully complete foundation studies will satisfy the minimum requirements for entry not only to their University of choice but may be eligible for subject exemption.

Who needs to do foundation?
Not every international student is required to study foundation in Australia, your need to study this depends on your understanding of English, course you’re interested in doing and results from previous study.

Working while studying foundation

The work permit for the majority of foundation students is the same as for other classes of the Australian student visa. After you have started your course you can apply for a work permit that will allow you to work for a maximum of twenty hours per week during semester and full-time during semester breaks.

How much will it cost?

The cost of foundation tuition in general varies depending on the city you go to and the language centre you choose. Tuition Fees range from AUD$250 per week to AUD$350 per week for regular courses, involving 25 hours of tuition per week. This compares favourably with other countries, especially when you convert your local currency.

Where can I study foundation?

Every major city in Australia has several foundation schools to choose from and every city has benefits over other cities in Australia. Melbourne is known for its night life, shopping and architecture, Sydney is known for its landmarks and beaches, Brisbane is known for its natural landmarks and relaxed way of life.

The quality of Australia's foundation providers is the same throughout the country. Students can select where they would like to study and know that they will be getting similar instruction to students in other locations. After the foundation course is completed students are able to enrol in any other college or university in Australia.

How do I apply?

We have several international education experts who are able to have a quick discussion with you (email or phone) to determine your level of English, determine your budget, review your previous study results and understand your location preferences and then recommend 1 or 2 foundation schools from there.
